@Theresa, thank you for the comment and the follow.

You can send a message to someone on Twitter by starting it with @userID. So if you begin your tweet with @CathyStucker (no spaces), I will see it because it shows up in my @ Replies. I do not have to be following you for this to work.

If someone is following you, you can send them a direct message (DM). There are several ways to do this. One is to click on the Direct Messages link on your home page on Twitter, select the userID from the drop down list and send your message.

@ Replies can be read by anyone. DMs are private and will only be seen by the person you send them to.

Hope this helps!

Hi Cathy,
I've been using Twitter for a few months and have noticed that many people use it just for promoting their sites, articles, blogs, etc.

When we're new, we tend to get excited about what we're doing, saying, etc. and after while the reality sets in that if we're just talking about ourselves, people will stop listening.

Your points are well taken. BTW, I am following you, but couldn't find a place to leave you a note and let you know how I found you and why I'm a follower. I clicked your link after reading a post you left on Chris at Ezinearticles dot com.

All the best,
Theresa

Cathy, that's a good reason. When I first started messing with twitter, I started following a lot of people, most people who would follow me.

But, I started to stop following most people, I'm only looking for real good stuff, a real conversation and not just affiliate promotions etc.

I only been using twitter for about 5 months, but I found that if you want twitter to work for you, don't try to make it, just interact and give value, and other people will notice.
