I too am in the throes of acquring a new computer in order to set up and support a website in the making. Since the endeavor is altogether fledgling I am comforted simply by the idea of the Idealady's presence on the planet. Whether one believes in Divine intervention or not is academic. For me, your suggestions appeared by design rather than the result of an accidental dig. Thank you for your overwhelmingly free advice and more importantly inherent generosity. Last November I got a new laptop and, like you, decided not to transfer everything from the old one. Instead, I copied the old files onto an external hard drive so they can be easily accessed if and when needed. Unfortunately, despite being careful to keep downloads to a minimum, 7 months on and my 'new' laptop is already slower to start up! Time to do some housekeeping I think.
