Everyone deserves a reward for a job well done. When you are self-employed, you are in charge of rewarding yourself. Your rewards might include buying something for yourself, taking time to do something you enjoy, or anything you enjoy.
So my question to you is: How do you reward yourself when you have completed a project, landed a new client or had another success?

I reward myself for jobs well done by taking a little time to myself to surf the web, read a book, play with the kids, whatever. I reward myself for pulling in more money by having diner out!

I have different levels of reward for different levels of goals. Small daily goals rate a piece of dark chocolate, medium-sized projects a trip to the coffee or ice-cream shop, extra-large accomplishments an expensive restaurant or some special event like a concert. And I earmark 5 percent of each check earned for spending on pure pleasure.
I’ve been trying to think of more non-edible rewards, so I can hardly wait to read the other suggestions that will come in!

I wrote an article about this once, because I like to reward myself for big achievements with a new charm for my silver charm bracelet. Every charm tells a story of some accomplishment and the more it jangles the more it reminds me. Definitely a bracelet to wear with pride and it’s fun too. (Not one for a daily goal though – otherwise it gets too expensive) The article is here

I have two rewards that I use anytime I accomplish something really big. Either I treat myself to a new book or dinner out with my girls. Both make me feel great and remind me that I am doing okay:)

Hey Cathy,
I have blogged for you a few times in the past, and I work at home running my own business. It’s funny that you should ask about rewarding myself because recently, I have realized that I am definitely burning the candle at both ends. I don’t work extra hours, but I work like crazy during my work hours so that it is almost unenjoyable.
In answer to your question, I am working on taking more breaks, which almost feels impossible to me, and I also have a massage booked during working hours this week! Many people would think that you have so much time to yourself when working at home, but I find that I work myself even harder and need to force myself to take breaks.

I reward myself with saving – at the moment I have hardly any money, so when I accomplish something I try to put a little bit of money toward something..at the moment I´m saving for a new bike (no I´m not 12 years old haha!) so I can ride to work and get fitter than I am.

Yes, Ice cream is a wonderful reward for me..along with taking a couple hours out to bake…like this afternoon making plum cobblers…
It’s important for us to take breaks, even if it’s to go out for a Latte, coffee with a friend because we work smart, and good things come to us when we do.
